Video in Social Media

Experts are going back and forth about which of the latest trends in social media will take hold and stick. Some experts say that social networking needs to provide clearer results as a marketing tool to keep businesses interested. Some people have noted the superficiality of social networking as a problem that may cause the whole thing to cave in at some point. But other experts are completely enamored simply with the new technologies that will change the way social networking works for individuals as well as businesses. One of the things that many experts on the online social environment agree on is the fact that video is going to become more and more important in social media. People are completely taken in by video and social networking sites like YouTube are evidence of its popularity. Doing video feeds in the past was technologically very complicated, but it's getting easier to integrate video into the social networking paradigm. As video becomes easier to work with and navigate for the average social networker, it will most certainly become more popular. Google+ is a new social media site that is introducing a whole new set of social networking video opportunities for users to partake in. This new social networking site offers the latest and greatest in video socializing, integrating in new chat features that include a video feed. It's possible to invite up to 10 friends to participate in a video chat at one time. A small box appears at the bottom of the screen with each person displayed inside. Google+ tries to switch which person is displayed on the big screen based on whose talking at any given time, but users can also manually control whose face is displayed on the big screen. This feature is truly awe-inspiring up against Facebook's wimpy one-person video chat attempt. The Google+ video features opens up a whole new set of possibilities for users. The 10 person video chat allows people to make written comments in a chat window that's displayed on the left hand side of the screen. The informality of the video chat is appealing as well. People can put themselves in a “video hangout” and wait for people to drop by for a visit. Keeping things informal is part of the fun of it. People don't have to make appointments to chat with each other using Google+. It's possible to “see” and “meet up” with people that you haven't seen for years. It has the potential to cure loneliness and inspire chance encounters with long lost friends and relatives. Google+ is social media genius that will certainly change the face of social networking for future generations. The impact of video technology on social media promises to be huge and long-lasting. As people get more fluent using video as a way to interact with each other online and as technology becomes more robust and capable of coping with video feeds, video technology will become more and more the norm, rather than the exception.
