His computer was seized by the police as part of an investigation revolving around indecent images of children, but the authorities couldn’t get on to his PC to check the contents because of the encrypted password.
Officers have been trying to crack the encryption, but unsuccessfully thus far, and the youth would not co-operate in revealing it.
He was convicted under the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act at Preston court, and sent to a young offenders’ institution to serve his four months.
If police do manage to break the password in the meantime, we’d imagine he’ll be doing another stretch after that.
